With the drive of unified communications to cloud based connectivity, a Session Border Controller (SBC) can play an important part in supporting a migration from premise equipment. Some gateway manufactures provide a convenient Graphical User Interface (GUI), others still focus on leveraging a command line interface (CLI). Continue readingCisco and Microsoft UC Integration: Part 1 – Intradomain Federation Messaging
Working through many conversations with customers has lead to example the steps required to complete some Microsoft and Cisco integrations within the Unified Communications (UC) space. For the scope of this exercise, the Skype for Business and Jabber endpoints using the same domain will be enabled for direct messaging only communication. This is the first post in an intended mini-series referencing the integration as well as user experiences.
Skype for Business Address Book Searching
While working through Intradomain Federation efforts, there was some issues with the Skype for Business client querying the users associated to the domain, but on a Cisco IM & Presence platform. After making a simple change and clearing the clients local cache, we were able to query the remote users.
Cisco Push Notifications for iOS and Jabber
With the recent release of Cisco UC products, an additional feature has been delivered. Jabber messages, both internal and Mobile and Remote Access (MRA) connected, can now be delivered through Apples cloud-based Push Notification Service. While this may not peak everyones interest, it is a prelude to enabling the same functionality for other communication channels.
Upgrade to Expressway 8.8.1 Breaks MRA
After completing an upgrade to Expressway 8.8.1, it was noticed that Mobile and Remote Access (MRA) suddenly stopped working. After some searching and log files, it was found to be a DNS PTR record issue. The implemented “feature” that required the Expressway-E DNS PTR resolution had only been implemented as a requirement in version 8.8.1.
Cisco Unified Communications Licensing Install and Rehost
I currently have some UC 10.x and 11.x licensing that is purchased and used for demonstrations. With the recent purchase of the 11.x licenses, a Prime License Manager (PLM) server was stood up to manage the multiple clusters using multiple versions of the CUCM platform. This post walks through the process of standing up a stand-alone PLM server, pulling licenses from the Cisco licensing website, and the rehosting of licenses from a legacy license manager.

Reclaim Thin Provisioned Disk Space on Ubuntu Linux Virtual Machine
Reclaiming disk space in VMware can be quite helpful when you are oversubscribing lab data stores. I had a Cacti database that had grown quite large and after exporting the data, I wanted to reclaim the disk space.
