I was working through a factory reset process on my Cisco 8945 phone and after the reset completed successfully, the phone attempted to download the latest firmware version from the device defaults page. The phone froze after powering on each time. Like usual, the fix was pretty straight forward.

Slow Internet Speeds
I had been experiencing slower than usual downloads over Time Warner’s network and it had become unbearable when I could no longer support a G711 call. For once though, it was not Time Warner’s fault.

While attempting to find out what an existing jabber-config.xml file had in it, I was having some issues using a TFTP client across port 69 to the server. While searching around, I found that the solution was simple: use port 6970 to view the file through a web browser.
Adding an Existing Certificate to Cisco Expressway Edge
I currently have a certificate that provides the HTTPS functionality for this website as well as my web mail access. As there is the capability to add Subject Alternate Names (SAN) to the certificate, it was ideal to enable the existing godaddy.com certificate for the Cisco Expressway Edge server. The requirements with Cisco’s Expressway server is that a private key decryption password is not allowed, and my private key requires a password.

Meraki Radius to ACS 4.1

Voip.ms and Cisco CUBE Configuration
Working with voip.ms for the first time was pretty straightforward. I liked the $.99/mo DID with a pay per minute session that allowed simultaneous connections across my lab SIP trunk. After adding some funds, it appeared that their wiki page’s configuration was not working properly. I imagine it would be a common problem, so below is the debug message that took me down the path for a successful 200 OK SIP connection as well as the correct sip-ua configuration.

PL2303 USB to Serial Driver in OS X
I have the CP-US-03 by CP Tech USB to Serial adaptor and have used that I have used for years. The manufactures driver always worked will for Windows and with kernels 2.6.11 and later, it is plug and play in Linux. With the new MacBook Pro, the provided CP Tech drivers did not work.
