It was time to purchase a new laptop and after much research, I decided on the Asus Zenbook. This laptop has proven to be great for me. This post covers some of my thoughts behind the purchase as well as the setup of Ubuntu on the machine.
Working with a 4k laptop has been quite nice. There are many scaling features that account for various desktops (mine is currently Unity on Ubuntu 14.04). The text within Firefox does scale within itself. While it may be cumbersome to change the setting in a separate places, there certainly are some benefits.

There are several posts out that that seemed to work for others, but I wanted to share my system configuration. The goal was to manipulate the initial login image and retain the lock screen image from the systems desktop. The dots are rather distracting too. Below is the setup I used to customized the system.
After migrating to a physical Windows 8 image to VMware Workstation, the keyboard was not working. I did have a mouse and the on screen keyboard to work through things. There were several posts that were available with suggestions, but these are the steps that worked for me.
I was working through a factory reset process on my Cisco 8945 phone and after the reset completed successfully, the phone attempted to download the latest firmware version from the device defaults page. The phone froze after powering on each time. Like usual, the fix was pretty straight forward.
